Map Tool Bar
The map tool bar provides a number of tools to
help you manipulate your map and get information.
Imagery
on/off
Lets you turn aerial photography on or off. By default, imagery is off.
Please note:
- Turning imagery on or off will only apply to the active tab. As you switch tabs, you'll need to use this tool again to make changes to the current map.
- When you return to a tab, the imagery will return to the same state as it was when you last accessed that tab.
- Only certain map tabs contain imagery. This tool will not be
displayed for map tabs to do not contain imagery.
Full
view
Zooms out to a maps at the full view of map extents.
Zoom in/out
Zooms in (+) or out (-) of the current map. To zoom in or out:
- Click the appropriate zoom tool.
- Click anywhere in the map panel, or
click and hold down the mouse button, while drawing a box around the
area you would like to zoom.
The scale tool bar provides advanced
zoom options.
Pan
tool
Lets you drag and drop to move the map in any direction. To pan:
- Click the pan tool.
- Move the cursor over the map panel and hold down the mouse button.
- Move the cursor to drag the map
- Release the mouse button.
You can also move the map using the arrows surrounding the map
panel., or moving around in the Overview Map.
Information
tool
Lets you access additional information about a specific point on the
current map. To browse more information, click the information tool and
then click on a point on the map.
A window will appear with a variety of information categories. To switch
categories, select an option from the drop down menu provided. Please
note that each map tab provides different
information categories for the same point. For additional categories,
switch tabs and try again.If you see a plus sign,
click on it to see if there is extended data available from other
datasets or databases. At the bottom of the identify window you
may also see hyperlinks to other external data.
You must have pop-up windows enabled to view more information.

Clear
selections
Clears selections and points plotted on the current map.
Previous
map
Returns to the previous map view. Zoom history is available to
allow multiple previous views.
Print
map
Generates a printer-friendly version of the current map view. Once you
click this tool, you can select landscape or portrait orientation, print
quality, a title, subtitle and additional comments.
To generate a printer-friendly map, click the "print preview"
button. A new window will appear with a ready-to-print map.
Print the map by using your web browser's print command. You must
have pop-up windows enabled to print maps.
Mail
map
Lets you e-mail the current map view as an image file. To mail a map:
- Click the mail tool
- Enter the recipient's name and e-mail address
- Enter an e-mail subject line in the box titled "subject"
- Enter a message to be sent with the e-mail (optional)
- Enter your name and e-mail address in the sender section.
- Click the "send e-mail" button.
You'll get a message indicating that the map has been sent. To exit this
tool, click the "close" button.
Legend
Displays a map legend. As you zoom in and out of the map, new layers
will become visible. Use the legend tool again to display an updated legend.
Each map tab has a different legend.

Overview
map
Opens a new window displaying thumbnail map of Newmarket. The red box
represents the position of the current map displayed in the map panel.
You can pan the map clicking on a desired
location on the overview map.
Measure
tool
Measures
any area or distance in Newmarket. To measure:
- Click the measure tool. This will open the measure tools panel under "Map Tools"
- Select a measure type (measure area or measure length)
- Select the unit of measure (default is feet)
- Click on the map to add measurement points.
The measure tools panel will automatically display measurements as you
add points to the map. To remove the points you've added, click the "clear"
button.
To stop measuring or to use another tool, click the "done"
button.

Add my Point
Allows user to add the own graphic point to the
map. This point is only temporary, and it will be removed when the
user exits the current map session. To place your own point:
- Click the add my point tool. This will open the panel under
map tools.
- Select the desired font from the available font types.
- Add desired label for the point.
- Click on the map where you want to place your point.
Remember this point is only a temporary graphical point. It is not
saved anywhere. When you exit the map or clear selections, it will be
removed from the map.

Selections
Allows the user to make manual selections by
clicking on the map where needed to select desired features. The make
selections:
- Click on the selections tool. This will open a panel under map
tools.
- Choose the desired selection method and hit the continue button.
- Use the combo box to select the layer that you want to select from
and hit the continue button.
- Click check box if you want to add to current selections.
- Click on features you want to select. If using the point
method, click once on map for each feature you want to select. if
using the line method keep clicking on map until the line pass through
the features you wan to select.
- Once you have finished selecting the desired features, hit the
submit button to finish. You can clear your selection prior to
finishing by hitting the clear last point button.
Your selections will be available in the selections box.
