Advanced Search searches for features based on criteria
that the user specifies. You can search
for something simple like a block and lot, or more complex like all of the
roads maintained by Montgomery Township that were built since 1994.
Advanced searches are one of the most powerful features of the map viewer.
It allows you to find the desired information without zooming, panning, and
clicking all over the map. Search results can also be saved for future
use.
-
Click "Advanced
Search"
- Select a search type from the drop down menu. Each Map Tab has
different searches created.
- If you place your mouse over the tip button, some information will
be displayed that will help define the search.
- Each search field is different. This is a listing of the
different types of search fields:
- Combo Box - user can only choose from a pre-selected list of
choices. Click on pull down arrow and scroll through list until
you find the desired search choice. Some combo box choice are
dependent on the previous combo box selection. An example is block
and lot. Once you have chosen a block number, only the lot numbers
in that block will be available.
- Lookup - user only needs to enter e few characters (usually 3), and
then click on the lookup button to obtain any values that meet the
partial value entered.
- Expressions - user select the expression types from the left combo
box (ie. Equal to or Greater Than), and then chooses the expression
value (ie. all lots with a Record Acres Greater Than 2). Only
enter the number in the expression value. Do not enter descriptors
or units like Acres.
- If you see a plus sign click on it to see extended attributes you
can search on from a different database linked database table or an
entirely different database.
- If you would like to remove existing values, click on the clear
values button located at the bottom of the advanced search window.
- Click the search button to begin searching for desired information.
- Most searches will pull up search results window. The search
results window allows the user to see the matching values and some
information about them, access some external features, and decide
whether to map all or only some of the records that were retrieved by
the advanced search.
-
Once
you have made the desired choices, click on "map it" to retrieve the
desired records from the map. You will see the selected features
on the map shown by highlighting or stars, depending on the scale of the
map. The map will zoom to a scale that will allow you to see all
of the selected features. The less features that are selected and
the closer spacing of features, will allow to map viewer to zoom in to a
closer scale, and allow the selected features to be viewed more clearly.
- The selection box located to the right of the map viewer will also
display the selected features. You select on the desired feature
and click on the "view details" button to see more information about the
feature selected. You can only view details for one feature at a
time.
- View details will show detailed information about a selected
feature, linked information from other database tables, or even other
databases. At the bottom of some detail windows, you will see
hyperlinks to external data (i.e. Tax Maps, Final Maps, Ordinances, and
as-built plans) and also external websites (i.e. National Geodetic
Survey, Somerset County Land Record Application, and NJ State Statute
Application). Remember that not all detail windows have external
hyperlinks.

- You can also save your selection list by clicking on the "save list"
button or retrieve previously saved lists by clicking on the "retrieve
list" button.
- You can also zoom to selected features, select or deselect features
by using their respective buttons in the Selection Box.
Advanced searches are specific for each map tab.
