If you do not have a recent version of Internet Explorer or Netscape you may not be able to properly use the Geoweb Map applications. Please attempt to re-access the applications using the appropriate web browsers. Pop-up Windows and cookies must be enabled to fully use all of the Geoweb Map features. If you have not done so, please enable these settings in your web browser for the township's GIS applications. Mozilla based browsers are not able to utilize all of the features of the Geoweb Map applications. This is due to the restrictive nature of these browsers. It is not recommended that you attempt to use Mozilla based browsers for these applications. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for any of our users.
1. How do I Zoom in/out on the Map?
To zoom In, click on the Zoom In tool, located on the right side of the map viewer. If you then just click one once on the map, the viewer will zoom in a predefined level centered on where you clicked. If you would like to zoom in within a specific area, click and hold the mouse while drawing a box around the area where you want to zoom. When you release the mouse button, the viewer will zoom into the area you selected. To zoom out, click on the Zoom Out tool, located on the right side of the map viewer. When you click on the viewer where you want the map centered. The viewer will zoom out a predefined amount. 2. How do I search for a specific feature, like a property (lot)?
Click on Advanced Search located at the bottom of the Search Tools section of the map viewer. This will bring up a window similar to the picture shown below:
First the select the map layer that you want to search at the top of the window. Then select the information that you want to search by. Please remember to only select the information you want to search by. The more search criteria that you select, the more chance you will not find any results. An example is only select the block and lot if you want to search for a specific property by block and lot number. The plus signs allow you to search by information in a another data table or database. Click on the plus sign to see the other available information you can search by. A good example is searching for a lot (parcel) by address. The addresses are in a separate data table that is linked to the parcel. Do not try to search by both block/lot and address. 3. How do I search for a point of interest?
Within the General Map application, you can search for points of interest by using the Find Facilities located within the Search Tools part of the map viewer. An example of points of interest that you can search by include:
When you click on the Find Facilities Tool you will see a window similar to the picture below
You can search by facility type or name. Use the pull down arrow to select a facility type. Type in the name if you want to search by facility name. You can also search for points of interest that are near your latest map selection. Please remember that you can only use the Find Facilities and What's Nearby Tools from within the General Map application. 4. How do I obtain information about a map feature?
Click on the Get More Information Tool located on the right of the map viewer. Click on the feature that you would like to get more information about. You will get a window similar to the picture below.
If the map layer displayed is not the one for which you want see information, click on the pull-down arrow at the top of the window and select the desired layer. Scroll through the window until you see the desired information. Clicking on the plus signs will allow you to see information from external data tables or databases that is linked to the selected feature. The hyperlinks located at the bottom of the window allow you to access external maps and information for that feature (i.e. deeds, tax maps, flood maps, and CAD files) that are available for download.
5. How do I move between map applications?
Clicking on the Map Tabs located near the top of map viewer allows you to toggle between the different applications located within the same project. When moving between applications within the same project, the map will remain at the same location and zoom level. To view more detailed information about Map Tabs, please click here.
To switch to a map application located within another project, click on the pull down arrow located in the Map View Bar located at the top of the map viewer. Select the desired project and click on the arrow to the right for the new project to load. The projects found within Geoweb Map are:

6. How do I access the external information that can be viewed and downloaded? External data and maps can be accessed from the More Information window in each application. If you select the desired data layer from the pull down arrow located at the top of the window, you will see the links for external data located at the bottom of the window. The links are only present for data layers that have external information. You must have the software loaded on your computer that will allow you to view the information. Most of the external data is in PDF format, some are CAD or HTML format. For a complete listing of the available external information, please click here.
Click on the Print this Map Tool located on the right side of the map viewer. The Print this Map Window will appear. In the pull down arrow select landscape or portrait orientation. Add a title, subtitle, and comments as desired. Select the print quality from the pull down arrow at the bottom of the window. Click on the Print Preview button at the bottom of the window to create a new window containing the map. Use your web browser's print functions to print the map.
From the Map Contents section of the map viewer, uncheck the layers you do not want to see and checkmark the layers you want to see. Hit the Apply button at the bottom of Map Contents to update the map with you new choices. To view more detailed information about turning map layers on/off, please click here.
9. How do I return to the full map extent?
Clicking on this tool located on the right side of the map viewer will return the map to its initial full extent.
Click on the Pan tool located on the right side of the map viewer. Click on the screen and hold the mouse button. You can drag the map in the desired direction. Let go of the mouse button when you have reached the desired location.
Some of the map applications do have aerial photography from 2001. More up to date aerial photography will be added in the future. If there is aerial photography available within a specific application, you will see the Imagery On/Off Tool at the top of the toolbar located on the right side of the map viewer. Just click on the tool to toggle the aerial photography on and off. The following applications have aerial photography available.
12. How do I clear selections?
In order to clear all selected features, click on the Clear Selections Tool, located on the right side of the map viewer.
13. How do I know what the map symbols and colors mean?
A interactive map legend can be accessed by clicking on the Legend Tool located on the right side of the map viewer. The legend shows the map layers that are currently displayed in the map viewer. For each map layer the map symbology and colors will be displayed with a description of each symbol and color.
14. How can I measure on the map?
If you need to take measurements from the map, click on the Measure Tool located on the right side of the map viewer. Please remember that the Measure Tool does not have snapping capability, so any measurements taken will be approximate. Some of the map feature attribute tables have length and area information included. Before using the Measure Tool, click on the desired feature to see if the measurement you need is already included. Once you click on the Measure Tool, you will see the Measure Tools window located on the left side of the map viewer, as shown in the picture below:
First select the type of measurement desired at the top of the window. After this you will select the type of units desired, the type of units will vary depending on the selected measurement type. You will then click on the map at the points that a measurement is needed. You will see the results displayed towards the bottom of the window. Once you have completed your measurement, you can click on the Clear button the begin a new measurement or click on the Done button to exit the Measure Tool. 15. Can I select map features without running an Advanced Search?
In order to select features directly from the map, you must use the Selections Tool. There are several steps that must be followed in order to select features in this manner. The first step will be to select the selection type in the Selections window located on the left side of the map viewer as shown in the picture below:
You will then select the layer that you want to select a feature from in a window similar to the picture below:
You will then click on the map viewer to make your selections. If you wish to add to an existing selection set, click the check box next to Add Selections. If you wish to Start Over or Clear your Last Point, click on the appropriate link. Once you have added the appropriate points, click on the Submit button to make your selections. When you are done making selections, click on the Done button.

16. Can I buffer a select map feature? In order to buffer features you must first select features using the Advanced Search or Selections Tool. Click on the Buffer Tool (shown in the picture below) which is located in the Advanced Tools section at the bottom left corner of the map viewer.
This will activate the Buffer Window as shown in the picture below:
Select the map layer that you want the buffer to select features from or choose Display Buffer Area Only to create a graphical buffer only. Type in the distance that you want to buffer the currently selected feature by (must be from 1 to 2000 Ft). Hit apply to create the buffer or close to stop using the Buffer Tool. 17. Is there an overview map available, so I can see where I am when zoomed into the map?
To view a overall map that shows you area currently within the map viewer, click on the Overview Map Tool located on the right side of the map viewer. This will bring up a new small window with an overall map similar to the picture below:
The area shown as a red box is the current area shown within the map viewer. If you click on the another area within the Overview Map window it will jump the map viewer to this newly clicked location. Montgomery Township Municipal Offices
